Introduction
View short film of this building
The Jerwood Centre at the Wordsworth Trust was built to house the Wordsworth Trust's collections of books, manuscripts, and fine art. Externally Elterwater stone and slate, lead oak and glass clad the building using references to the local traditional building methods but in a thoroughly modern way. Archive vaults and plant occupy the basement and conservation is carried out on the mid level. The top level provides a reading room which is the architectural highlight. Scholars from all over the world come to the building to study to Wordsworth's life and those of his contemporaries.
