Introduction
The Lakeside Centre is a civic building in the best sense of the word - it enhances the region and the lives of those who live here. Full involvement of the public has helped in the idea of this community leisure centre, the formulation of its contents and in its siting.
Architecturally, the scheme has three elements; a central zone of foyer, fitness, refreshment and viewing areas which binds together the aquatic and sports facilities on either side.
Public reaction to the new facility has been overwhelming. The number of people visiting the centre is well in excess of that anticipated; the target for selling membership for the fitness facility was met within 6 weeks of the buildings launch - a sure sign of the success of this community facility.
